‘STRUWWELPETRA’ /
ANNA LENTON

Lenton’s project is called ‘Struwwelpetra’ which is an image based website portraying the 19th century book of short stories called ‘Struwwelpeter’ by German author Heinrich Holmann. The stories are mainly based on a variety of children and animals that have misbehave and as a result get punished for their actions, which many of the stories are designed to scare children out of misbehaving. The children in the stories have characteristics common to children today like; sucking their thumbs, not wanting to wash, stealing and bullying.

Lenton has created images inspired by these stories, however portraying adults as the children's characters in the stories to show that people often take characteristics from their childhood into adulthood. Therefore showing that personal actions and actions of others from the past influence people today and of the future.
