IMPERFECT BEAUTY /
‘Imperfect Beauty’ is about how people see themselves as imperfect because of different flaws that they are unhappy with; a scar, a birthmark or some flaw they would want to change if they could. Laxon decided to experiment using different materials to create imperfection, and to demonstrate how something may not be perfect but it is still beautiful. For this project she strived for originality, and to have a meaning behind the photography.
Different makeup looks have been created using a range of materials that produced varying textures. This project is focused on what different celebrities think about imperfect beauty; as role models most people look up to them and consider them near perfect, but their own views confirm that many feel imperfect themselves. The view Laxon presents is that it is okay to be imperfect, and for many the imperfection can enhance the beauty. Flaws are what make a person, and these flaws make you stand out from everyone else. Imperfections give us our individuality and uniqueness.
Laxon’s inspiration for this project came from makeup artists such as Marilyn Minter and Betsy Vanlangen. She respects and admires their work and how they created radical and unique looks using their makeup techniques.
