FRONT COMPETITION 2018

 

The Front Competition is a yearly competition run by Solent University and AnonStyle Magazine. The competition is an amazing opportunity for aspiring makeup and hair artists, to showcase their practical and design skills. The theme for this year’s competition was ‘Under the Sea’. Students had the option of working in teams or solo. The competition was spilt into 3 distinct categories: College Students, Beauty and Editorial, Character and Prosthetics and Graduate. 

COLLEGES

 

The college students were asked to create either a beauty or a character look

based this year’s theme.  The winners (Erin Boxall and Chloe McDonald) 

highlighted a deeper understanding to the theme displaying unique

thought-provoked designs, expressing the environmental effects of pollution

within marine life.

BEAUTY AND EDITORIAL

 

Students from Levels 4, 5 and 6 from Solent University, competed

within this category and were asked to design a beauty look based

around this year’s theme.The winners of this category, Bethany Addington

& Misha James, produced a spectacular design based on a species of

jellyfish. The in-depth research put into their idea helped the girls form

a design that told a story through the hair, makeup and costume.

Beautiful handmade costumes and headdresses complimented

their beautiful work.

CHARACTER AND PROSTHETICS

Level five and six students took part in this category, they were

briefed to create an under the sea character using prosthetic makeup

techniques and were given four hours to complete their designs.

 

The winners from this category, Natalie Hodgkins and Ella Christenson,

produced an exciting design that highlighted the effects of pollution

on marine life. The pair worked cohesively together to create an

outstanding idea, showing they had paid great attention to detail

shown within the application.

 

 

 

 

 

The winner from the Graduate category this year was Amelia Kildear

who created a stunning prosthetic sea princess. Her concept was based

around the story of a beautiful princess who was offered up to

Poseidon to guarantee safe passage for her father’s men during battle.

Due to this the princess was dammed to live an eternity under water.

The princess fought for her freedom, stole Poseidon’s trident and

now roams the sea to seek revenge on her father

Overall ‘Front’ competition was highly successful and a great reminder of the amazing talent of our students.
